MORE
ON THE MAVS GAME...
TheBigO
Grant
and Jerry mentioned that the loss to the
LA was thought then to be a possible turning
point for both the Mavs and the Lakers.
But then the Lakers continued to stumble
a bit and the Mavs played stellar ball once
|
again,
so they concluded that the game didn't have much
meaning.
I see it a little differently.
While there's still plenty of time for the Mavs
to exorcise their demons with regards to both teams,
the fact that the Lakers rose up and snatched away
a sure victory from Dallas and now the Kings have
blown them out on national TV in their first meeting,
its got to bother the Mavs quite a bit.
In
the back of their minds they must be thinking that
despite all their success this year, they have been
dismissed by the two teams that form the biggest
roadblocks to their championship hopes.
The
coaches can say all they want about regular season
games not making any kind of statement, but if the
Kings can play the Mavs anywhere near this tough
in their remaining contests then the statement will
have been made loud and clear.

I
was SO not expecting a trouncing like this.
I was figuring on four quarters of high-energy
run-and-gun basket trading. But...tonight seemed
to remark The Return Of Allas. C-Webb - triple
double. Peja and D.C. - torched 'em from the
arc. Bibby, Keon...everyone seemed to join in
the fun. At least fun if you were a Kings fan.
I actually felt bad for the Mavs. They are a
better team than this game indicated. Holding
Mike Finley to 8 points? Yikes. I think Chris
racked up more than Dallas' "Big Three"
combined, didn't he?
Good grief, even Mateen got four points! Bless
his heart...
And it was too bad that dunk of Gerald's was
well after the buzzer. That was a gift for the
fans, definitely...
Well, this was a huge surprise, but one thing
seems sure--you want HCA? Put the rest of the
Sac schedule on national TV. The three "statement
games" so far have been made to very large
audiences...
THIS
JUST IN... :)

SACRAMENTO,
Calif. (AP) -- Saying he had seen enough, NBA
Commissioner David Stern declared the 2002-03
regular season complete and that the Sacramento
Kings and New Jersey Nets would immediately
begin playing for the league championship.
Stern
said that, since not even Dallas, with the NBA's
best record, could give the Kings a game, it's
obvious no one else in the Western Conference
has a shot. "Are
you kidding?" Stern said after Sacramento's
123-94 dismantling of the Dallas Mavericks.
"There's no point in wasting everyone's
time and energy. Who's got a shot at these guys?"
Stern
said the best-of-seven Finals would begin with
games Friday and Saturday at Arco Arena, followed
by three games Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
at the Meadowlands.
"We
won't even bother printing tickets for Games
6 and 7 in Sacramento," Stern said. "Does
anyone seriously think this series would come
back here?"
