CHARACTER
Bandit
One
popular model of character education is called
"Character Counts!", and it includes
six "pillars" of character:
Respect
- Look at the respect the Kings all seem to
have for each other. Between the 1st and 2nd
stringers, and between individual players. Most
importantly, they also have respect for themselves.
Responsibility
- The Kings set the NBA bar this year with the
way they handled the WCF loss. They could have
spent the summer crying, but their comments
to the media were very professional. Even when
a certain other team was anything but.
Fairness
- With the Kings, it's not about getting as
much ball time as possible. Everyone passes
and shares, because they have the same goal
and play by the same set of rules. No matter
who they are.
Citizenship
- Look at how involved Fundy is with charity.
Or Vlade. Look at what CWebb did for that 10
year old boy recently.
Caring
- This team not only gets along...they genuinely
like each other! And they love the game of basketball.
Trustworthiness
- This team not only does their best to be trustworthy,
but they show that faith in each other by daring
to trust. Remember last year near the end where
Hedo's poor performance was a big factor in
losing that game? Chris told him, "Hedo,
you're my brother, and if you miss 99 buckets
in a row I'm still gonna pass you the ball and
you're still gonna have to make number 100."
Or something like that.
I
think character DOES count, and it's one of
the reasons the Kings have elevated our league
and the game of basketball
