BLESSED RELIEF

All-Star break at
last... The
only thing I can think of to explain it
is that the injuries and the schedule have
just caught up to them. Players like DC
keep saying they don't want to use either
as an "excuse"--but there's excuses
and there's reasons...
It
was painful to listen to this game to the
end. I did out of my own little hardcore
sense of loyalty--I was going to suffer
with them to the last buzzer. They're my
guys. I'd hoped they could go into the break
on an upswing, but...maybe that's not a
good idea. Pain can be a gift--it lets you
know something's wrong. Something needs
to be fixed. Granted,
a lot of that will be fixed soon. The schedule
for the rest of February is lighter and
more home than away for a change. There's
this lovely week off where our weary team
can rest up, recover, let the minor aches
and pains heal and the major ones get that
much closer to recovery. We have Bobby's
and Chris' returns to look forward to this
month(Scot's if we're extremely fortunate,
but that would be miraculous), and believe
me--THAT will change things for the better!
But tonight, as horrific as it was, astigmatic
shooting, airheaded passing and all, can
serve a purpose.
They
say it's always darkest before the dawn.
Tonight was a point of reference--this is
the darkest. The biggest loss. Surely the
most disheartening defeat. And they can
remember this, use it as something to get
their backs up against and swear "No
more". Use the time off for self-care
and gathering their inner resources and
inner strength. Use the memory of tonight
as the springboard for a new resolve, strengthening
themselves and supporting one another, and
move forward. And
let's not forget, many of us were dreading
but imagining a 0 - 3 road trip this time--it
was 1 - 2 instead. I know I was one of the
ones imagining Dallas exacting a shaming
revenge for last month, and instead we saw
one of the most exciting games and close
victories we could have hoped for. So, while
tonight was one big suck-fest, it still
could have been worse. They had a taste
of heaven in Dallas and hell in New Orleans.
In
Sacramento next week, it will be a taste
of home, sweet home. I hope the Arco crowd
shows them the appreciation, love and support
they did during and after the loss to L.A.,
whatever the result--but I have a feeling
it will be more wins than losses now. Now
to keep a positive attitude and hope for
an end to the punishing injuries. A healthy
Kings team going into the post-season will
be a thing of beauty. Believe.
