I
have always regretted letting Jerome James
go. I know he was demanding alot, but size
and athleticism can't be taught. I am very
frustrated right now. Good, well coached teams
have seen that you can beat the Kings by playing
physical defense and hitting the open shots.
What's
next?
It's
not Vlade's fault, but we know that he is
effective at center through smarts and technique,
not so much on speed and athleticism...
Obviously
Adleman can't seem to find a purpose for Fundy
except in garbage time, despite his general
effectiveness....
It
seems that we need another large body. John
Thompson was saying that the weakness we have
defensively is the lack of a shot blocker.
It
sure seemed that way tonight, and especially
against the Sonics, where our big men definately
came up short.
Am
I off the mark here, or is GP going to have
to pull off another miracle? The team cannot
wait for a rookie to develop, and I don't
see the problem going away. -Chicken

BTW,
I don't think Dallas's move was a good one.
They are messing with a good thing, and late
in the season, too. I think I read earlier
that they are turning into another Blazer
team...which would be fine excepting Portland's
strong play of late.
At
any rate, there is only one basketball, and
they all want it, NVE needs it all the time.
I think that Denver got the better of the
deal:
They
dumped Tariq, who, despite no offensive game,
is making around 7 million a year, they have
alos gotten rid of an unhappy guy in Van Exel,
and they are in position to clear some cap
room (back to the drawing baord unless they
resign Howard for less $ next year).
But
the silver lining is, while Dallas has gained
a Kings killer in NVE, they have lost Howard,
a guy CWebb rolls over for habitually.

This
team better show some pride on Saturday and
dig deep because the Mavs have just as much
if not more to prove than the Spurs did tonight.
They are going to want to bury the Kings early
just like the Spurs did and they have way
more firepower to do it. They may have to
play at their best just to avoid getting blown
out.
I just didn't see a whole lot of smart basketball
tonight and John Thompson said it best, they
didn't come ready to play.
The
Kings collapsed on Duncan and dared the shooters
to beat them in the first half. Well last
week they didn't hurt and tonight they did.
Against the Mavs, there is no Duncan to double
so the perimeter defense should be better.
I am still worried because the Mavs are going
to be hyped up to have their new players and
in this game, they might not need anything
inside if they spread the floor, penetrate
and shoot. On offense, the Kings should do
as they always do against the Mavs and attack
them in the post with Vlade and Chris. Tonight,
Chris really got away from what has made him
better this year with the ball movement and
balanced attack. He looked more like last
years Webber who felt he was the entire team
and shot too quickly. Peja just never got
it going when it mattered and he might volunteer
to drive the bus to the Spurs new arena next
season. The dome was in his head and never
left.

At
some point you have to stop absolving the
coach of his part in the Kings' road woes.
I'm not saying it's all his fault, but I don't
think you can say it's all the players' fault
either. Either he's telling them to play all
crappy on the road (unlikely), or they're
just not executing what he's telling them
to do. If the latter is the case, then he's
gotta be more assertive with them, and that
may be the extent of his culpabiltity. It
seems the Kings aren't making any headway
into solving their road problems. I would
hope coach would do something to stop the
bleeding when the team keeps playing bad game
after game, maybe even something drastic (like
benching the starters early in a game if they're
all playing crappy). Now the Kings are looking
at the possibility of falling below 0.500
on the road on Saturday.

So,
Ive had a chance to regain my composure.
Im just grateful the bench was able
to keep it from being too nasty. Look, it
is easy to be pumped when we winand,
boy, do we love our Kings after a win. I intend
to put aside my disappointment and embarrassment
and chuck it up to the fact that, as good
as they are, the Kings will have other losses
along the way. Seeing the look on the faces
of the starters setting on the bench after
a dismal game is enough to make me realize
that they are only human. Right now they need
our love more than ever. So to Vlade, Chris,
Doug, Peja, Bibby and all the bench players
heres a great big hug for all of you
from me. Put this behind you and regroup for
Dallas.
Our
opponents, the Spurs, were immensely hungry
for a win. They were on their home floor.
They just couldnt stand the thought
of being swept by the Kings. They couldnt
bare the humiliation, so they fought hard,
shot straight, defended like demons and played
one of their best team efforts in a long time.
It was a matter of pride. For such an effort,
I have to give it up for them (applause, applause).
They earned it.
The
Kings will recover and come back to play another
day. Again, a great big hug of appreciation
for all their efforts that still finds them
#1 in the NBA. Kings we support you 100%..

2
things I take coming from this game.
1.
At home down 20+ they will come back to make
it a game and play with heart, but on the
road down 20+ they will play like complete
pansies.
2.
You can always tell early when it's gonna
be one of those nights. It seems that one
big surge on the road spells doom for Sac.
The only time I saw them play through a surge
was in Minnesota.
They
really gotta start playing D in the 1st..>I
am sick and tired of seeing teams just light
us up in the 1st and letting a team like SA
hit their shots and giving them confidence
spells doom.
On
the bright side we still got the season series
with the Spurs, they wanted it more and it
showed when even the Admiral was playing with
heart.
One
more thing I'm thinking that the problem with
the Kings on the road is focus. Thats why
I am not worrying about them come playoff
time...in the playoffs if you want to win
you are FORCED to focus. They will show if
they are ready to actually focus on the prize.
If
they take care of buisness out East with the
absolute minium of 3 losses on both of their
Eastern swings combined...I think they clinch
HCA.
