RAMBLINGS
Slo Bob
1. Was I dissapointed
with the game against the Pistons? Of course.
2.
Do I believe that it is the undoing of the
Kings...Nope.
One
of the reasons for Peja's lack of shots
in the second half was the defensive adjustments
the Pistons made at half-time. They are
the best defensive team in the NBA this
year! They had Barry shadowing Peja with
defensive help, although that was not completely
why Peja stopped getting shots, he was having
difficulty fighting through the screens.
Although the Kings did rush shots and were
thrown off by the increasingly physical
game (the refs started calling the game
tightly and loosened their calls significantly
by the end.)
Once
there was increased defensive pressure,
Webber did try to take the game over and
despite what he says I believe playing in
Detroit was weighing on him. He is a thoughtful,
reflective person, who despite his protestations,
may listen a little too much to what is
said about him. Most of the time, he is
motivated by boos and the visiting crowd,
but with the added weight of the trials
(both his and his fathers and his Aunts),
he was pressing, which he tends to do at
times, however I will not say he is not
a clutch player, especially in the unique
system the Kings have.
I
am not a critic of Adelman, overall I believe
Adelman fits this team well, however I do
question a couple of the moves on Sunday.
Once the Pistons began playing a more physical
game in the second half, it seems it would
have been an opportune time to put in Pollard
and B. Jackson, our two-most physical players.
To
state the obvious, I wanted to see the Mavericks
and the Spurs lose on Sunday. With the scenario
of the Kings winning and those two teams
losing, it certainly would have made it
easier to move to the one seed or have a
better record than the Spurs. It will be
extremely difficult now, but at the risk
of being labeled a cock-eyed optimist or
even "positive slo-bob" I do think
it is possible.
Before
the trip, I was looking at a record of 5-1,
which can still happen --- if the Kings
do learn from the debacle of their worst
fourth quarter this year.
