Game 3, Round 2
Pondo

This game is in the books. Now time to move on to Game 4. Like I wrote before, this has been great season!!! If it is going to end on Sunday, so be it! I am and will remain a KINGS FAN!!
Would like to see the Kings win on Sunday to at least force another game or more!! Would like to see a little "doubt" on those Fakers faces. Maybe PJ would be forced to put the ear plugs back in!!!!

The part that bothers me is the looks on the faces of the Kings players. I was looking for some thing, not sure what, but it was not what I saw on TV.

This is a photo of Rick Fox's hair stylist, taken shortly before the start of the playoff series.
Why was CWebb sitting on the bench with a towel over his head? Then I heard on TV he was talking about the worse loss in his career? Come on CWebb, tie them shoes up tight and kick butt on Sunday! At least go out fighting!!! It may be your last game at Arco so please make it one we will remember!!

Next year thoughts

If the Kings lost playing in a tough series, I would be ok with it but the whole team just isn't playing close to their potential. The Lakers would have been tough to beat if the Kings were playing well, but Sac is making them look even better than they are. It's gotten progressively worse each game. Game one, Peja and a few others struggled. Game two, everyone but Bobby, Hedo, and JB struggled. Tonight everyone struggled.

For next year, Petrie will most likely work with Webber on a S&T to an eastern team. IMO a multi-team deal will be made with NY or Orlando.

Orlando: perhaps Mike Miller, Bo Outlaw, and draft picks
NY: perhaps Houston, Thomas, and draft picks

The Kings would then take those assets and trade with a 3rd team to fill their needs which i think would be a more consistent scoring PG and a replacement starting PF.

As for the other current kings:

Jason - if a deal is available then I think Petrie would make it. JWill could use a change of scenery too.

Christie - will petrie resign Doug if Webber is sure to be on his way out? If a SG comes back in a S&T then perhaps not. He's been great for the team though and always works his butt off. His lack of offense does hurt the team unless he's paired with a scoring PG.

Peja - stay, he's still young and improving.

Vlade - probably will be kept, he makes too much money to be traded anyways. perhaps petrie would deal him if there was a taker and he felt a full on rebuilding effort was needed

Bobby- stay, cheap quality backup PG

Hedo - stay, will be given a few years to develop, future starting SG?

JB - stay, signed for a couple more years, little trade value

Fundy- might be dealt if there's a taker

Scot- stay, good young backup PF/C who has signed to a reasonable contract

Jabari- needs to fight for a roster spot

Nick- don't know if his contract is up, but if it isn't a buyout will probably be made

Derrick - gone, contract up

Condolences
Critic

Condolences to Kings fans. The effort was there, especially on D, but the offensive execution was lousy. Even so, they had enough easy shots last night to have won 3 or 4 games, but just missed them. Also, Big John kept making the point that the Kings need to fill the lanes and get out there and run with Jason for him to be valuable. Not sure I always blamed the passer on many of those stupid-looking T/Os last night. Several times it seemed to me that the passer SHOULD have anticipated the break to the hole and thrown the ball where he did -- but the guy who should have broken to the hole never showed up to catch it, so the passer looked like an idiot. [This happens in other team sports and games, such as (1) in football, when a QB throws the ball to where a WR was supposed to go (given the reads) but the WR goes elsewhere so the only guys around the ball are from the other team and you at first wonder "What was the QB thinking?" and (2) in bridge, when one defender sends a "count" signal and the other defender receives a "suit preference" signal and a stupid-looking error ensues.] It's hard to get this right until you have so many years of experience together that you "read" the same way. To get everyone on the same page requires lots of repetition as a team and if you can get away with just running and going 1-on-1 most of the time in the regular season maybe that repetition doesn't develop. Still, making 1/2 of their EASY shots might have done the trick last night. Had to have driven many Kings fans to consume LOTS of beer watching them brick so many short shots. Once again, condolences and better luck on Sunday.

Next Year???

I thought big john and lil dan were way off base last night.

They were saying the Kings were playing better when they were behind by double d AT ARCO. Huh? They were close to winning at staples.

Vlade said they didn't mean to play SHaq straight up in LA, but I think their instinct (or whatever) was correct. You just can't double the tri. Because of the spacing you can't get back to your man in time. (although Webber was pretty quick while playing a zone last year. This year he can't do it).

I thought they should play the same way they did in LA---and with home court a few of the breaks would go their way.

Phi was making fun of Adelman's strategy saying the Kings were playing to the Lakers' strengths, but I think he just sucked him in.

Phil played shaq straight up in Orlando....at least the 4th quarter.

What's wrong with everyone?
Reno Lady

Geez, you guys sound like someone fired off a missile and it's heading straight for your house! The world has not come to an end, the sun will still shine, and the Kings still have to play until someone wins 4 games out of 7 (right on Fielding!). Either the Kings have hit that proverbial "wall" as a team, or they're just trying too hard. They have no flow to their offense, transition or half-court; they're totally out of sync which is usually a sign of too much self-pressure. They wanted to win this game so badly, for themselves and their fans. Ever take a test that was the turning point in your grade and even though you knew the answer to every question, when you sat down to take the test your mind couldn't come up with any of the answers? This is kind of the same thing. The Kings know they can play well enough to beat the Lakers, that they have just as much, if not more, talent and ability - but they've let "beating the Lakers" become more important than playing good basketball. The Lakers did a good job last night but overall their performance wasn't that great either so I still don't see that the Kings are being outplayed so much as that they're making mental errors, again something usually caused by too much self-pressure. The other thing is that when they reached their goal of getting out of the first round they may have let down some. That's not uncommon for a younger team breaking some barriers for the first time. Remember how they acted after the win over the Spurs? There was that letdown afterwards and they played a couple of pretty bad games.

While it's easy to point fingers, sitting in the stands, at home, in a sportsbar, etc., being out on that floor is a whole different thing. The Kings have been great this year-look what they've accomplished and it's obvious that the best is yet to come for this team - and soon. I'm sure there's not one of them who isn't angry at himself for not doing what he knows he's capable of doing. But just like a child, a team has to crawl before it can walk and walk before it can run.

Instead of chastising why not encourage? Encourage them to play their best basketball, doesn't matter if they win or lose, just play the best game they can play and let them know their fans are behind them no matter what. They've given us a season to remember, and sometimes you just have to be grateful for what you have.

Star Trek Analogy
jsotelo

You know what the Lakers are like? They are like Borg. They seem to adapt and overcome everything someone can throw at them. Maybe more like a leaking dam. You plug one hole and another opens.

Whatever analogy fits I am dissapointed in the loss but proud to see them get here in the first place. I refuse to "settle" for this and it's more like it was yanked out of our hands.

I have had three people come up to me and tell me that Geoff is trying to work a deal with the Lakers to get Webber for Kobe. I have not seen or heard this ANYWHERE.

Comments anyone?

I don't think Kobe would fit in Sacramento. He just seems like too much of an ass. Maybe we could get him to lighten up. Who knows.

Kings....

SandB Bill

Lets not forget the season.. The bar has been raised. The last three years the Kings have improved. This season is not over yet, I really don't expect the Kings to win the series, but I don't see them losing twice in a row at ARCO either. Hey, you never know. last year we were one game from being swept and we took it to the max.

However it works out though, I really think Geoff will do what needs to be done in the off season to prepare this team to go further next year. As far as Webber, I'm still not so sure he will be leaving, I think the only place he really would go would be NY to play with Spree.. and it sounds like the Knicks are planning on keeping Houston so I wouldn't think they will be making any big moves for Webber. I would look for the Knicks to try and pick up Wallace or someone along that line. A lot of talk about Webb going to the Rockets, I don't see that happening either, Webber already said he does not want to be in the middle of a re-building process and that is what it would be in Houston. If Webber does leave, I think we will get people to help the team, so I'm not overly worried about it. It will be another hell of a year..

burek i jogurt

No, the series is still not over, but it will be soon  . Just kidding. We finally played good defence, but our offence was nowhere to be found. It seemed like we have no offence other than isolation plays. There just has to be a way to move the ball better then we did. And we definitely have to stop forcing things. My boy Peja is caught up in his duel with Rick Fox not passing the ball sometimes for an entire possesion. That is not the way to play basketball. The Kings are due for a good game, and I'm expecting it to happen on Sunday. We just might win this one, and then steal the next one in LA. Then we are back home with a chance to push the series to seven. And then who knows, anything might happen.

I have to give props to LA though. They play excelent defence.

Shaq
Birdman

Yeah they controled shaq, but did they win? no.

I keep saying whenever we have won against the lakers in the past, shaq has done well... but we controlled everyone else. I keep saying that but I wish someone else would see it too.. dont double team shaq, he will get his points, just make sure everyone else doesnt get any. he cant win the game by himself...

Everyone concentrates on how to stop shaq, they forget the other 4 players out there, including a very dangerous kobe.

This strategy of stopping shaq never worked for anyone in the past. and it was their 3 point shots that won them the game, whenever the lakers have been defeated, it was because the opposing team guarded shaq normall, and concentrated in keeping anyone else from taking off scoring wise. how do you think the clippers defeated them twice?

this is gonna suck if they sweep, i just wish the coaching staff would wake up and realize we should play like game 1 and work on the rebounds, cause with a better rebound number we would have gotten game 1.

Frustrating Loss but Kings are a Young Team
John114AAA

While last night's loss was very frustrating, we nned to remember that the Kings are a very young team. The top 8 players are the second youngest top 8 in the league. This is the first time this team has advanced to the 2nd round and it takes experience to win at each level. It has been extremely rare for a team to win on its first trip to the 2nd round or beyond.

The Lakers and the Spurs are the top 2 teams in the league but their position will not last. Lakers fans above all others should realize the frustration of Kings fans and understand that it will eventually turn around (witness the Celtics complete and utter domination of the lakers for so many years before the Lakers finally broke through and won a championship. Same was true for the Bulls trying to unseat the Pistons. The Lakers of today are much closer to the Pistons of the late 80s than to the Celtics of the 60s and I do not see any long term dynasty in the making. In fact, the Spurs are probably the better team, except they have suffered key injuries, Duncan out last year and now Anderson out this year. The bottom line is that the Spurs are an old team (oldest top 8 in the league) and the Lakers are a fragile team (uncontrollable egos, old role players).

I believe that the Kings can move up if they hang together and the young players continue to improve and I trust that Petrie will add another key piece in the off season.

GO KINGS!!

Plenty of Time
JB

Next week will be the start of a long summer that promises to drag out until late August with lots of discussion. Lets just enjoy what's left. Who knows, maybe the pressure is off and the Lakers ease up a bit knowing this ones in the bag. Give us one good effort at home to finish this off. I know I'm selfish because I have tix for tomorrows game, but I want one last time to get fired up.
