Vlade
looked good, pretty tan actually. I didn't see
him doing wind sprints or anything so I can't
make a judgement on how good of shape he is in.
He did do a couple of dunks for the kids,
|
answered
a bunch of their questions (some pretty good ones
like 'how much money you make?' Vlade says what
do you think? The kid says 'alot' Vlade says, 'yea,
I think so too.')
He was much easier to talk with than I thought.
(I thought he would put in the appearance and leave,
but he hung out, was talking with all the kids and
the parents.) I got to chat with him a bit, he said
he is really going to miss Jason, but Bibby will
help
us get to the next level.
He kissed my 5 year old daughter on the cheek
and signed her jersey (he's her favorite)
She was psyched.
He's a great guy, with a genuine love of kids. |

"Right
now, I'm floating on air... It's a dream come true"-CW
By
Reno Lady
Hi everyone! I just got home about 10 minutes ago and
have been reading the comments about the press conference
|
| |
and
the Welcome Webber Back gathering downtown. First of
all there had to be a few thousand people crammed into
that space; they threw 4000 T-shirts to the crowd and
there were a lot of people who didn't get any; of course
there were a few who got 2 or 3 but still they got rid
of 4000 T-shirts. I think Chris was a little startled
by how many people turned out; basically there wasn't
an inch of space available and so many people all so
close together made it very warm there. Thank goodness
a breeze would come up once in a while. They introduced
the Maloofs, then Petrie, then the Webbers, Jason, David,
& Jeff, and Mayce,
|
| |
then
finally Chris who was smiling and waving at everyone.
You could tell when he'd see someone he knew because he
grin would get even bigger and he'd either point at them
or wave at them. The crowd was so loud it was |
 |
 |
almost
like being at a game, my ears were ringing 2 or 3 times.
Before Chris got there they were broadcasting the press
conference over huge speakers and then they showed Webber
highlights on 2 large screens at each end of the platform
|
|
where
everyone finally took their places. (I'm describing
this in as much detail as I can remember so those who
didn't get to go can get a better picture of everything).
Nearly everyone there had on some type of Kings shirt,
jersey, hat, etc., even the little kids. A guy standing
next to me had on a #5 jersey for Hedo, the girl in
front of me had on a #16 for Peja and I saw 2 or 3 Barrys
Pollards, Vlades, and of course several Webbers. There
was nothing but applause and cheers for Chris and the
Maloofs. Petire got a couple of boos which I don't understand
but they didn't last long because people around those
who tried to boo silenced them immediately. It's obvious
Chris and Petrie get along very well. At one point Petrie
was standing next to Jason Webber and when Chris was
through waving at everyone he walked right to where
Jason was and kind of scooted him over so he could stand
next to Petrie. He said something to GP and they both
laughed, then Petrie said something to him and they
both laughed again. Chris & one of the Maloofs signed
a fake "contract" in front of everyone. Both of the
Maloofs said a few words as did Petrie and Mayce Webber.
But the day belonged to Chris and everyone was sure
he knew it. He thanked Petrie and the Maloofs and said
they'd made him feel like family and then he thanked
the fans, using the statements already posted. He also
made mention that he'd always been taught to tell the
truth and he knew that sometimes that got him into trouble
but he was going to tell the truth again and that was
when he made the statement about how he thought when
he came to Sac 3 years ago that it was the worst thing
that had ever happened to him but now he can see that,
next to being drafted, it was the best thing that's
ever happened to him and he considered his being traded
to Sacramento a blessing. He hugged both the Maloofs
which kind of made me think of Lurch hugging the Granny
on Beverly Hillbillies because Chris is so much taller
than either of the Maloofs so he had to bend over to
hug them!
I
waited outside the entrance to Macy's where all their
cars were parked and I got almost next to the one Chris'
3 brothers and dad were going to get in (a big limousine).
The Maloofs and Petrie came out first and everyone clapped
and cheered for them and people were calling out "thank
yous" to them. Petrie was even gracious enough to agree
to have his picture taken with some young woman. Then
David, Jason, and Jeff came out to get in the car. I
yelled at Jeff, "jwebb the other brother". He looked
right at me, winked and gave me a thumbs up. There is
no doubt in my mind now that he posted on the Yahoo
site. Mayce came next and got in the car with the 3
brothers. Chris of course, was the last to come out.
You could hear people in Macy's clapping for him. When
he came out he was high-fiving people all along the
way, especially the kids. He had a huge grin on his
face and before he got in his SUV (being driven by someone
else) he turned around with a big grin on his face and
said thank you so much and something else I couldn't
hear for sure but someone else told me he said "I love
you guys" then got in to leave.
