LINE-UP FIDDLING
WINS AND LOSSES DON'T MEAN SQUAT

WEBBER, WEBBER, WEBBER...

I can't get this image out of my head;

Webber, resting on a stark white couch in a stark white room, his foot elevated and wrapped in ice, Tyra, draped in a vintage Victoria Secret leopard print silk robe, dropping grapes into his mouth from behind, stacks of cash everywhere, a black puma with a diamond collar rests on the plush white shag carpet.

The moral of the story; its good to be Chris Webber.

Am I sick? :)

One of the greatest PF EVER? I don't think so. As I mentioned in a post yesterday, Webber still has a lot to prove. A great player he is not... yet. He certainly has the potential, but there are several areas he needs to work on, most notably his soft, interior defense. With that being said, the area I really want to see his game improve is scoring in the paint. With the advent of the Zone, it will be interesting to see how he responds. We all know that his injury late in the season last year was the reason for his continued decision to shoot the 18 footer. Damn, I got so FRUSTRATED, game after game, to watch him take that shot instead of taking it to the rack.

We'll see... Webber is a good player and the Kings definately need him in the lineup to contend. One thing for sure, Webber didn't sprain his ankle because he is being lazy or passive!

Personally, I'm just upset that we are going ot have to wait to see what kind of player Webber is going to be THIS year! IMO, with this latest injury, we are never going to find out how Webber REALLY would have played. I don't know if it was ever really determined why he became so soft towards the end of last season. WAS he still nursing his ankle? Or was he fearful of reinjury and lessening his value as a FA? Either way, I'm afraid it's going to be some time, if ever, that we see that old "Warrior" face again. Hope I'm wrong. I love what we had in CWEBB in the past and pray we will have it again.

I don't think there's a player....maybe in history...the size of Webber with the skill set he has, and I like the finesse style.

I've heard analysts (ex-players) talk about the building the perfect player....and they pick Webber's hands. Perhaps the best of anyone who has ever played.

I think the criticism of Webber comes from the fact that he's human.

He's always been singled out as a player with the potential to be the best that's ever played.....since he was a kid, so there's a "ideal" that he's compared to.....and it's a team sport. Until the Kings, he hasn't had a competitive team since college.

From a purely physical standpoint, Webber is amazing....but he still has to prove himself in the playoffs to get the credit.

MORE WEBBER

This time last year all of the talk was about Chris Webber and how desperately everyone hoped he would resign with the Kings... he would be our saviour and lead the Kings to their first ring.

Let's move forward to the present... Chris gets hurt in a preseason game and people get down on him, critize him for getting hurt because he makes so much money, implications that he is soft and did it on purpose.

OK people, I am confused! Are these true Kings fans or just people who like jumping on the current NBA discussion bandwagon.

Personally, being a fan is much like being the citizen of a country. You stand behind your team through thick and thin -period. I am a Kings fan, I am standing behind the team and all of their members - and I don't think that Chris got hurt on purpose!

Chris Webber has said all along that he wants a championship - the difference between the current Kings squad being a playoff team and a championship team are Chris Webber and I am sure that he knows that. I'll bet that besides being in pain because of the injury he is really pissed off about the whole situation.

I love Webber’s game. The finesse, the power, all of it. It’s a wonder to me and it’s why I love Basketball so much. Duncan on the other hand, may not be as pretty to watch at times but he’s fundamentally sound and has the qualities one can count on, which by the way has it’s own beauty. That is until he completely caved last playoff series. Until then, I could have admitted that with either PF one can make a perfect fantasy team ( particularly because of that ‘championship’ Duncan has) but since he mysteriously went away against the MIGHTY Lakers (not the weak ones the spurs swept 2 years prior), I have lost my faith in Duncan's heart. So yes, not only would I take Webber over Duncan, in my humble opinion, if he is injury and stress free, Chris is the best player in the NBA!

Aside from the fact that I've always enjoyed watching Chris play myself, from a strictly basketball POV I think in the long run he'll be seen as the better player, although not necessarily the better PF. Duncan is a legit 7 ft - yet he's never led the league in PPG, rebounds, or blocks, all of which he should be garnering once in a while at least. He's nowhere near the passer Webber is and doesn't generally do well on fast breaks, something Webber is quite good at for his size, also he rarely makes a steal, something else Webber is very good at. Duncan's fundamentals, as you mention, are sound - but I don't think he uses them to his advantage as much as he could and I have yet to see the visible improvement in Duncan's game that we've seen in Webber's during the last 3 years.

Many people here lately are criticizing Chris for getting injured, that is just ludicrous. His free throw pct was awful that one year and the next year he had the single largest FT% increase in NBA history. If that is not a sign of someone who works as hard as he can to improve parts of his game that need to be improved I don't know what else you need, perhaps he can turn water into wine to convince those who still don't believe. He also led the league in rebounding that one year as a King, another sign of a hard working player who is not soft. Let's just all be very sure of ourselves before we go throwing around terms like "soft" is all I am saying.

Talented? very
Durable? not very

I also think that webber is in this position b/c of who he is playing with. I said during the "to sign or not to sign" dilemma that I think we are almost as good without him as with him.
He just better step up, take care of himself and when it comes end of season, ther are no acceptable excuses. Either you play like a superstar or you go home early.

It's a long season folks, we'll be fine.
