The Big O

Didn't the Grizzlies move out of Vancouver because of lack of fan support and poor attendance? Wow, good thing they improved on that with the move. Sheesh. How can they not even sell out the Pyramid? The Grizzlies are improving and are actually fun to watch. What's the over-under on the number of years before they move again?

Jerry West has earned the genius tag with his moves over the years. However, as far as Memphis is concerned, the most genius move he made was seeing a team with an improving core and a bright future.

Near as I can tell, this is
Memphis' current roster:

Robert Archibald
Isaac Austin
Shane Battier
Michael Dickerson
Pau Gasol
Gordan Giricek
Drew Gooden
Brevin Knight
Chris Owens
Wesley Person
Stromile Swift
Cezary Trybanski
Earl Watson
Jason Williams
Lorenzen Wright

The only players West has brought in that have contributed thus far are Gooden (more on him in a minute) and Giricek. He also brought in Watson (who I like) although he is the third PG and Trybanski, who I haven't seen enough of to form an opinion.

This team is on the rise, and although West will assuredly make more moves to improve the squad, there were some pretty good pieces in place before he got there: Dickerson (if he ever plays again), Wright is decent, JWill is JWill, Battier will be a nice sixth man eventually, and of course Gasol who looks unstoppable at times. Giricek was a flat out steal in trade for a second rounder. He's a poor man's Brent Barry (I think Jerry saw that tonight as well) but that's pretty damn good for a guy that they got for next to nothing.
