This
was not a good game from the Kings, but somehow
they managed to hang on and win it anyway.
Far too many TOs again & too many out
of control plays. Adelman needs to talk with
Bobby, his aggressiveness is frenetic instead
of focused & it's causing him to make
too many mistakes. You have to like what Bibby
did tonight and Hedo played a better game
than he has since the first couple of the
season. That last shot was unreal - it looked
like he just threw the ball, not shot it;
I think even he was surprised it went in.
I
give the Kings credit for picking up their
defense in the 4th quarter though, that made
a big difference and gave them a couple of
easy baskets which gave them, and the crowd,
the momentum. I'm just glad to get this win,
ugly as it was.
They
need to clean their act up before the Nets
come to town because Kidd and Company are
playing very good ball right now. I saw bits
and pieces of their game against Utah and
they're fighting for every board, every point,
every loose ball - and they don't give up.
Kenyon Martin is looking real good as is Van
Horn & everyone is playing as a real team.
I give Kidd the majority of the credit for
that on the court but Byron Scott seems to
be doing a pretty good coaching job as well.
He and Malone got into it tonight over something
- they were jawing at each other and there
were a couple of shoves but the refs got it
under control pretty fast.
I
love the picture of Peja and Hedo bumping
chests - they seem to get along very well
& support one another; some of that is
Vlade's influence I'm sure. Also thought Peja's
comment about Hedo's game "It's about
time" was cute. Hedo has been off the
last few games and he's tried too hard to
force the issue but he seemed more relaxed
last night and let the game come to him, hence
the 18 points, 14 in the final quarter and
he also had some good defensive plays. Some
Blazer fans on the espn board were complaining
about the last "shot" he took, essentially
saying he was trying to run the score up even
though the game was, for all purposes, over.
I didn't even consider that a real shot, it
was more that the shot clock was winding down,
someone told him to shoot and he just threw
the ball toward the basket - and it went in,
and I think Hedo was completely surprised
that it did. That's why he had that funny
grin on his face. A shot clock violation wouldn't
have made any sense that I can see at that
point so he did what he thought was right.
I'm just glad to see that he played a good
game and hopefully the confidence from that
will stay with him.
The
Kings need to work on their free throws! Peja
missed 3 out of 4 last night! Totally unlike
him. And Vlade.....???? What in the world
has happened to his shot from the line? And
then Bibby missed some too. That drives me
crazy because in a really close game those
FTs could be the difference between a win
and a loss. So please, guys, get some help
on those free throws!

What
a game!!! Usually I have to keep telling my
other half that we are in good shape as she
insists "we are gonna lose this game"
tonight in the 4th I had that thought for
a brief moment. You gotta give the Blazers
their due, they hung around and even took
the lead briefly in crunch time. But the Kings,
just like an elite team does, found a way
to win. Their defense tightened up, and they
were the aggressors down the stretch.
GO
KINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Q
The
Kings survived exactly the kind of game I
expected and they used to lose and outlasted
the Trailblazers in a game that was too close
for comfort, until Vlade, Peja and Hedo pulled
off their heroics in the last 2 minutes. Mike
and Peja showed his shooting skills throughout;
but Vlade and Hedo were particularly effective
when it mattered most. Next, the Nets roar
into town tomorrow, and the Kings will have
to play more like they evidently did against
the Rockets to be assured of winning that
one.
My
9 year old finally watched another Kings game
with me and although the Kings played poorly
and he fell asleep before they won the game.
He stopped watching when Jason and Jon were
traded. Maybe the Kings win will allow him
to feel more inclined to watch Kings games
with me again. I am sure he will be pleased
to find out they won.
Critic
Wasn't it Shaq who said the Kings would be
an expansion team w/o CWebb? Hmmm, maybe the
big fella's been reading too much Aristotle
to keep up on other NBA teams.
Congrats
to the Kings on the 9-3 record so far. Those
with good memories will recall that most here
claimed they'd be happy with .500 ball with
CWebb out and I think the .600 ball I predicted
was either the highest or close to the highest
predicted percentage. .750 projects to 61
or 62 wins. They would be too thin w/o CWebb
to hold that pace over a season when someone
else got hurt, but still it would be hard
to find another team in the NBA that could
go 9-3 w/o its primary star. Such records
are rare enough for teams WITH all their stars.
Look it up.
