To Rick Adelman for
leading the pack for the early "coach
of the year" race. Taking
nothing away from Nelly, RA has done an outstanding
job at putting different combinations together
using only 8-9 pieces per game. I thought
this morning's article by Kriedler was right
on the money, and that RA simply doesn't get
the credit he deserves from the rest of the
league, the fans or the media. And this includes
many Kings fans as well (you know who you
are). He
has done a heck of a job in keeping the locker
room in check, putting very few healthy players
together on the floor and winning games, and
has demonstrated his ability to take several
guys that haven't been with this team very
long and make them look as though they grew
up playing together! The
Kings are quietly putting together a terrific
season while dealing with one of the worst
injury scenarios in the history of the team.
And I don't buy the "they haven't played
LA, Dallas, Indiana, etc.". They have
played with a lot of guts and determination,
something I have posted that has been lacking
earlier in the season. The
Kings have shown the NBA that they can lose
any one of their players - and I mean any
player - and still be a team that will take
it to you if you don't bring your "A"
game. Further, I think it does a few other
very positive things for this team. Consider
the following:
-
The confidence the team has with virtually
any combination on the floor. They feel like
they can win, and that is something special.
-
The message it sends to the rest of the NBA
(see above).
-
Raising the confidence of the Kings players.
No doubt that players like Wallace, Jones
and J. Jackson have benefited from this. Heck,
look what it's done for Bobby!
-
Setting the stage for comebacks for the decrepit.
Can you imagine what this team will play like
when they get Bibby, Hedo, Peja, Fundy and
Pollard back in the lineup! Now that's scary!
I
give most of the credit to coach Adelman for
the position the Kings are in right now. Now
I realize that many will argue that he hasn't
won a title, but IMO, he is the leading candidate
for Coach of the year!
