New Jersey
Nets
GM: Bo Kimble |
Kenyon Martin Cincinnati Sr. PF 6-9 230 |
David Stern: With
the first pick in the 2000 Bleacher Mob Mock Draft, the New Jersey Nets
select Kenyon Martin, Cincinnati PF. Rod Thorn: With my new duties as GM of the Nets, I was excited to have the first pick in the draft. The pick came down to 3 things for us. We were very tempted to trade the pick. Orlando and Chicago both made nice offers, but since a trade didn't shake down (in the real NBA) we decided to go ahead and make the selection. . . so it basically came down to two players. Kenyon Martin and Stromile Swift. They both had great workouts for us. Both are strong and athletic . . . why we took Kenyon, was that he had proved it longer in college. The Press: "Mr. Thorn, did you give any consideration to Chris Mihm?" Rod Thorn: We did. We had Chris in for two different workouts. He is a nice player and should have a nice career. But we felt, that when you have the first pick, you need an impact player, and we weren't convinced Chris was that player. In all honesty, we saw a lot of Luc Longley, Bill Wennington and maybe even a little Will Purdue in him. We just felt that Kenyon and Stromile would be better professionals. |

Stromile
Swift LSU So. PF 6-9 235 |
David Stern: With
the second pick in the 2000 Bleacher Mob Mock Draft, the Vancouver Grizzlies
select . . . Stromile Smith, Forward from LSU. Dick Versace We really wanted a big inside presence for defense and rebounding. But this guy just blew us away in his workout. He is taller than we expected and he is an outstanding athlete. He needs to add a little muscle to bang with some of the power forwards we have in the west. JB: That David Stern, he is always mixing up his names. Didn't he announce the wrong team name during a lottery show some time ago? |

Los Angeles

GM: Fireplug |
Chris
Mihm Texas Jr. C 7-0 262 |
David Stern: With
the third pick in the 2000 NBA Draft the LA Clippers, ecstatic that
the Grizzlies went for some guy named Smith, choose Stromile Swift...Uh,
what's that, you say the Grizzlies really did pick Swift? Hmmm,
in that case, the Clippers, in desperate need of a power forward to
replace Mo Taylor, pick Chris Mihm, Center, Texas. Elgin Baylor: "We plan on making Chris our starter from day one. We will move Olowokandi to the power forward position ('cause that guy sure stinks at center), and our new twin-tower front will take the West by storm. We are also in talks with Magic Johnson to take over the head coach position. Could you imagine having Magic and Kareem both with a team in Los Angeles?! What? You say they won't be allowed to play? Darn!..." |

Chicago
Bulls
GM: S-Chris |
Joel
Przybilla Minnesota So. C 7-1 240 |
Jerry Krause: I'll explain my first pick to the city of Chicago better later, but right now I have to finish a report due in an hour. Let's just say for now that we are in desperate need of a center to use in the triangle, we were so bad there last season, I actually found myself regretting letting Luc Longly go. Fizer was tempting as trade bait material, but there was no need to mess around and end up losing out on a promising, young 7 footer. There were some other very intriguing possibilities with this pick, but with Artest playing well enough at SG and a certain someone possibly coming to town, who's name I can't mention yet or the team could be fined for tampering with Tracy McGrady... oh crap! | ||

Orlando
Magic
GM: Q |
Mike
Miller Florida So. SF 6-8 218 |
Howard Stern: David is
tied up in the john. Literally. By some headcase in a mouse suit. Anyway,
with the fifth pick in the 2000 NBA Draft, the Orlando Magic select
Mike Miller, Forward, University of Florida. Why doesn't anybody around
here have any hair? Mick E. Mouse: Donald, Goofy and I are really pleased with the pick. We were messing around with morphing on the computer and we tried putting the Magic cap and uniform on photographs of various players, and Mike Miller looked the best. We all agreed. And then we lost all the scouting tapes, except the one where Mike Miller scores that last second shot in the lane against Butler, and wow! We must have replayed that dozens of times, backwards and forward. Besides, the Magic could use another good small forward; and...uh, okay, we guessed. Mike has the same initials I do, so we drafted him. Happy? |

Atlanta
Hawks
GM: Cat Man |
Marcus
Fizer Iowa State Jr. PF 6-8 240 |
Lon Krueger: When I took
over the once-proud franchise of the Hawks, there was one critical need:
Points. The Hawks averaged only 94 points last season. We need someone
who can put the ball in the hole. We didn't expect to find Marcus at
this spot, but when he fell to us we couldn't pass up the opportunity
to get someone who can not only score but also rebound and play a little
defense. Lenny Wilkens: Great. Just great. I get a win or walk ultimatum with what, J.R. freakin' Rider? Jimmy freakin' Jackson? Fat chance. Now Lon Chaney comes in here and gets Jason "No Longer Brain Dead" Terry and now Marcus freakin' Fizer! Think he's got to win to keep his job. Nooo. Think he'll do a little better than 28 freakin' wins? Daaayam... Hubie: And Atlanta being unaware of Fizer blowing out a knee. That was a shocker. Lon Krueger: Knee? What knee? Lenny Wilkens: Heh, serves 'em right... |

Chicago
Bulls
GM: S-Chris |
Darius
Miles Lincoln HS Sr. SF 6-9 200 |
David Stern: With the
7th pick in the 2000 NBA draft, the Chicago Bulls take... (opening card)...
the 2001 playoff officiating crew. Hey, wait a minute, I'm supposed
to fix the games in this league, you can't have my refs. Give me the
real card... With the real 7th pick in the NBA draft, and this better
be real if you ever want us to give you a top three pick again, the
Chicago Bulls select Darius Miles. Jerry Krause: We are very happy to get Miles at this spot in the draft. We were very, very close to taking him at number 4, but had more immediate concerns to take care of when we figured he's still be around in three picks. All due respect to great players like Demar Johnson and Courtney Alexander, but this kid has too much potential to pass up on. We also considered taking Mateen Cleeves to shore up our very weak point guard position, especially since we still have a lot of faith in our free agent possibilities for the SF position. However, as much as we love Artest as a starter, the thought of eventually bringing him off the bench to back up Miles and an unnamed SF is even better. In fact, we almost drafted Miles first to take Cleeves at 7, but we felt that was too high to take him, so we decided to stick with a talented big man. We are very confident with the prospects of our future line up. Our only real question mark right now is point guard, but we are happy with Miles, free agent SF (who I will not name to avoid tampering and angering Butch Carter), Brand, and Przybilla with Artest coming off the bench. Thank you. |

Cleveland
Cavs
GM: KW |
DerMarr
Johnson Cincinnati Fr. SF 6-9 200 |
Jim Paxson: Beat by the
Bulls again! Damn you Jerry! You took my guy! Hmmm...who to take, who
to take?...give me a few mins... You all probably expect me to select Iakovos Tsakalidis...nahhh...we don't draft for need, we draft talent. So without further delay...with the 8th pick in the 2000 NBA draft, the Cleveland Cavaliers select... DerMarr Johnson out of Cincinnati! Associated Press-Cleveland- "We were very fortunate to have the opportunity to draft Dermarr Johnson," said Jim Paxson, the Cavaliers GM. Johnson left Cincinnati after his freshman year. There he averaged 12.6pts, 3.9rebs, and 1.4asst a game while shooting 47.5% and 37.4% from 3pt land. Not bad for a 6'-9" shooting guard with a 40" vertical leap. "The pontential, the talent, the vision of a kid that could play the 1, 2, or 3 position was just too hard to pass up," said the giddy Paxson. Johnson has been compared to Portland's Scottie Pippen because of his versitility and athleticism. "We wanted to draft the best talent, not draft for need. Its clear we need help at the center position, but Dermarr was a talent we could not pass up. He has amazing handles, a silky jumper, can jump out of the gym, and he is 6'-9"! " said Paxson. Currently his rail thin body weighs in at 215lbs. Johnson will need to add a few pounds to bang with the boys of the NBA. No one questions his talent, but he will get knocked around if he doesn't put some muscle on. Johnson was also the teammate of Kenyon Martin, the number one overall pick in the 2000 draft made by the New Jersey Nets. |

Houston
Rockets
GM: Houston JP |
Jerome
Moiso UCLA So. PF 6-10 230 |
David Stern: With the
MUCH anticipated 9th pick in the 2000 Bleacher Mob Mock Draft . . .
the Houston Rockets select . . . Jerome Moiso, Forward UCLA. Rudy T: We apologize to the other GM's for the delay, but we were really torn between two players and had to have them back in for workouts the day of the draft. After working out Moiso and a certain shooting guard from Fresno St. we decided to go with a frontcourt player. Since we liked both players equally, we decided to go big. Jerome is young, athletic and he has tremendous upside. We have a young dynamic guard in Stevie Francis and we are hoping Jerome can be that dynamic front court player we can build around. Carrol Dawson, Executive Vice President, Houston Rockets to David Stern: "What do you mean we have already picked a player? I just left for a few minutes to go to the bathroom, walked in, and click the door locked behind me and there was no door knob on my side. Gone. The only way I got out was writing 'HELP, STUCK IN JOHN' on some toilet paper and floating it out the window. Two days later the janitor shows up, and well, I don't have to go to the bathroom anymore." David: "Well Rudy picked for you, sorry you missed the party." Dawson: "Well I hope Rudy know that I had just cemented a trade before I went into the can. Steve Francis for Rasheed Wallace. We need a point guard. Who did he take?" David: "Maybe you should sit down." Dawson: "I don't want to sit down. I've been sitting down for two days and have a permanent ring on my back side. Who did we get?" David: "The Rockets took Jerome Moiso." Dawson: "Can I have something to eat?" Stern: "How about some of this chicken sandwich." Dawson: "I'm sick, my kingdom goes down the drain while I am on the throne." Stern: "Chin up, ain't no one but the Lakers going to win the title for the next 8 years anyway. I've taken care of that." Dawson: "Silly me. Well, Jerome is a good pick for us, in fact, I love the guy. Should fit in real well with this team. Has Bob Hurley been taken yet?"... |

Courtney
Alexander Fresno St. Sr. SG 6-5 200 |
David (Q) Stern: Get
that loon in the the mouse suit away from me! Sorry. Now, with the tenth
pick of the 2000 NBA Draft, the Orlando Magic select Courtney Alexander,
Guard, Fresno State. Don O'Duck: #@%&^()*)$%?!!! Mick E. Mouse: Heh, heh. I think what Mr. O'Duck meant to say was that we are thrilled to be able to draft Courtney Alexander. Contrary to Don's overzealous remarks, we think Courtney is the best player available and are confident he will prove to be perhaps the steal of the draft. And if that Q dweeb hadn't been so busy stuffing his face, we would have made the pick immediately! Mr. Alexander is the guy we wanted all along. The Ouiji board is never wrong, man. (Aside) Shut up, Duck! |

Boston
Celtics
GM: Critic & WyoMC |
Iakovos
Tsakalidis AEK Greece (Sukhumi, Georgia) C 7-2 220 |
Rick Pitino: Okay-so-we-aren’t-100%-sure-this-kid-really-exists.
But,-if-he-does-exist,-he’s-perfect! He’s7-2-and-that’s-BIG.
We-need-BIG,-we-really-do. What? Slow down and take a breath? Ok, ok.
Anyway, so what if he can only shoot from inside 15 feet, that’s
where centers SHOULD be shooting. He passes well and we want him to
do a LOT of that – to Pierce & Walker would be nice, mostly
Pierce, actually. Most important, he can defend and rebound and we are
desperate for that stuff. He isn’t fast, but he can run the court
well enough to get back on D. Potato Pancake, take a seat next to me!
I’ve wanted to say that for SO long without it meaning I had to
watch Battie or Ellison get their lunch money stolen by real NBA centers!
What? Ok, Red, I'll shut up now. GM: If Tsakalidis and Moiso had been gone, it might have taken Boston a LONG time to decide. At that point, the players that looked good who also fit their needs would have all been drafted. I had pretty much decided to go with Alexander on a "best athlete" basis despite that being Pierce's position -- Boston's max strength. Moiso was intriguing as a running mate for Walker. It might be hard to say which was the PF and which the SF if they played together, but it could also drive opponents nuts trying to defend them both. |

Dallas
Mavericks
GM: PistonJW |
Olumide Oyedeji DJK Wurzbur (Nigeria) PF 6-10 240 |
Don Nelson: Well, is
it our turn to draft now? Just spend these free days traveling around
the world searching for young talented prospects who could improve our
game the most, from Greece, Germany, Yugo, Nigeria to China. I hadn't
have some further discussion with Mark(Cuban) about this pick yet, but
I believe he will support with my choice wholeheartedly like he always
does. Now just wait a second for me and David(Stern) to confirm how
to spell this kid's name correctly... David Stern: With the #12 pick in the 2000 NBA Draft, the Dallas Mavericks select...Olumide Oyedeji, center out of Nigeria. (Well, I made it. No more "Akeem" this time... ) Don Nelson: With the change of the organization and an impressive finish of the regular season, the fans of Dallas Mavericks surely have the strong demand to ask for further achievement for this long-time disappointing club, and we would like to reinforce our distinctest weakness by this pick. With only 18 years Oyedeji, the power forward/center sensation coming from Nigeria has already had decent numbers in European basketball and already showed some raw but great potential which was compared by some people to the other great center who also from Nigeria and one of the member of 50 greatest NBA players Hakeem Olajuwon. We take an optimistic view about the growth of Olumide, who will not being forced to play at the starting center spot immediately when he first enter in to the league. With my personal abortive apologue with a young man out of Michigan named Chris Webber 7 years ago when I was in Oakland I learned a lot. And although we have the high expectations about Olumide who was considered by someone as the savior in the paint, I think we would rather hold the contract until he could prove that he's a well-disciplined kid with great work ethic. Those memories about Leon Smith and Dennis Rodman were still circling in my head... Donnie Nelson: I for one can't wait to coach him. Don Nelson: Uhh...son...I guess I forgot to tell you about Sidney. Donnie: Sheesh dad, I'm always the last to know. Like the time when you told me that Kent Benson was my brother. |

Orlando

GM: Q |
Etan Thomas Syracuse Sr. PF 6-9 231 |
Mick, Don and Goo are having
a bitter if cartoonist fight over three prime potential picks. This
is a really hard one, man. Mick, get that blasted Ouiji board out of
here! Don, put your pants on. And no, Goof, we are not obligate to pick
players who come from places the begin with "F". I have an idea, let's
untied Doc Rivers, and ask him who he wants. Ouch!... David (Q) Stern: Thanks, Doc. Better put a cold compress on that. Ahem. Ready? Good. With the lucky 13th pick of the draft, the Orlando Magic select Etan Thomas, Forward, Syracuse University. (Aside) Would somebody restrain that, uh, Duck, please. Doc (Q) Rivers: We wanted Etan Thomas, because he is true power forward with the strength, athleticism and determination we are looking for. Somebody suggested Etan Smith, but we found out he doesn't actually play basketball, just chess. So, Mr. Thomas got the nod. It almost didn't happen though. That 0'Duck guy kept attacked us, screaming something that sounded like "DeShawn, DeShawn!" But I got away and picked Etan anyway, just in case we can't sign free agent Tim Duncan. Pat/John (Q) Williams/Gabriel: Oh, yeah. Says you, Doc. I get credit for everything around here, and so all the picks were MINE, all mine! |

Detroit
Pistons
GM: Pistons Guy |
Erick
Barkley St Johns So. PG 6-1 170 |
David Stern:
With the 14th pick in the 2000 NBA draft, the Detroit Pistons select
Mate ... yeah, right, bet some of you lost money on that bet... point
guard Erick Barkley from St. John's University. Joe Dumars: We're ecstatic to get Erick Barkley at this point, and thought he was a surefire lottery pick. There was public voice for us to draft Mateen Cleaves or Jamal Crawford for the PG position ... we feel we've combined their best strengths while avoiding each of their weaknesses by selecting Erick Barkley. We loved the intangibles Mateen brought to the table, but questioned whether he had enough athleticism to do the things in the NBA that he did in college. We loved Jamal's athletic skills and potential, but the intangibles and PG poise aren't there, plus he's a bit of a tweener, and we have one of those in Lindsey Hunter. With Barkley, we're getting the entire package ... intangibles, leadership, athleticism, vision, everything a PG should have. Grant Hill/Jerry Stackhouse: Whee! We've got a PG now! Joe Dumars: This is for all the other G.M.'s with picks coming up ... we're interested in aquiring another pick. If anyone is interested in moving a pick, give us a call. Rod (Bo) Thorn: I'd be happy to trade you the Nets pick at number 36. Geoff Petrie: The Kings organization would be willing to sacrafice and trade you our 16th pick, Corliss Williamson, and Lawrance Funderburke for Grant Hill. ;) Go Kings!!! Rod (Bo) Thorn: Wow, I'm sorry Pistons Guy, I just won't be able to match the offer that Petrie made you. I guess I'll have to pull out of the trade talks as you and Geoff work out the details of that Grant Hill deal. =;-] |

Harvey Florida Fr. PF 6-8 216 |
David (Paolo) Stern: With
the 15th pick in the 2000 NBA draft, the Milwaukee Bucks select. Donnell
"Midget" Harvey out of Florida. Crowd: And a collective ooohhh from the stunned crowd. Ernie "Paolo" Grunfeld: George and I had serious conversation about drafting a 5'7" Power Forward. I mean c'mon even Spud Webb was taller than that... hmmm what's that oh, he's 6'7", ...oh, ok then I guess that'll be allright, c'mon Chuck Barkley's only 6'4"! Milwalkee Journal Sentinal: Mr. Grunfeld, then how will you deal with 2 undersized pf in you team Darvin Ham and Robert "the tractor" Traylor?... Mr. Grunfeld? Jerry Krause: Darn it Karl, you stole my "steal" of a pick. I was sure Harvey would be my banger at 24, well, back to the drawing boards. I wonder what Rodaman's up to. |

Sacramento Kings
GM: T-Chris |
Desmond
Mason Oklahoma St. Sr. SG 6-6 207 |
David Stern: Mr. Petrie,
you are NOT allowed up on stage. You have to tell me who you want to
pick. Geoff Petrie: No! I can't risk someone finding out before the pick, so I would prefer to read it myself. Stern: I'm sorry Geoff, but it doesn't work that way. I am the one in charge and the only one allowed to read the pick (until the second round of course). Hey! Stop pushing! Geoff Petrie: I'm sorry David, but you did kind of flop on that push. There are no officials around to make that call, you know. You better have that ankle looked at though, it is already starting to swell up. Anyway, with the 16th pick of the 2000 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings select Desmond Mason out of the University of Oklahoma State. He fills several big needs for the Kings right away. His defense will be a big help next season, and we think he may be the most athletic player in this year's draft. He also has the all-around talent to be a starting SG in the future whose game will fit nicely next to Peja Stojakovic. Desmond Mason and Morris Peterson were the 2 players I wanted most (with the HS kid being 3rd). But in the end it came down to who I thought would be the better player 3 or 4 years down the road. Because I am pretty sure that Peterson will be the better player during their rookie years. Go Kings!!! |

GM: Fireplug |
DeShawn
Stevenson Wash. Union HS SG 6-5 210 |
KAAL-TV, Austin, TX:
Special Bulletin- Chris Mihm, chosen third overall by the Los
Angeles Clippers in the NBA Draft, was admitted today to Seton Medical
Center with a ruptured right Achilles tendon. Details remain sketchy
at this time but we do have some information from Jonus Mullet who lives
in the apartment directly below Mihm. Mr. Mullet claims he was watching
the NBA Draft on his television when, "All of a sudden, a big ol' tennis
shoe come fallin' down from the ceilin' right after the Clippers made
their pick." "I looked on up, an there was a foot stuck plumb through
the ceilin' from the floor above me." said Mullet. An unnamed source
reports that Mihm, so distraught at being chosen by the LA team, slammed
his foot down hard enough to smash through the floor beneath him, thus
causing his injury. Elgin Baylor, when told of the news, said, "You
know, I had my fingers crossed behind my back when I made the pick,
so it really doesn't count. Right?" Magic Johnson, apparently not in
the running for the Clippers' head coaching job anymore, remarked, "I
can't believe I was actually considering going there..." Hubie Brown: "Wow, what about that news about Chris Mihm's tendon, John?" John Thompson: "Yeah, Hubie, speculation is now running rampant as to whether the news will effect LA's upcoming pick..." The Press: "Mr. Baylor, how will you deal with the injury to your new starting center?" Elgin Baylor:(Loudly, with fingers in his ears) "LAA LAA LAA LAA, I'M NOT LISTENING TO YOU, HAPPY, HAPPY JOY JOY!" Hubie Brown:"I don't think he has come to terms with it yet..." Voice in Elgin's Head: "The Lakers won it all with a big center and Kobe Bryant... We have a big center now (I'm sure it's not a major injury) so all we need is Kobe Bryant... Hey what about that high school kid everyone says is the next Kobe..." Elgin Baylor:"Hey, Mr. Stern..." David Stern: "With the 18th pick of the 2000 Draft the Los Angeles Clippers select DeShawn "Baby Kobe" Stevenson from Washington Union HS. " Jerry Krause: No, not again, I needed Stevenson to bond with Miles. Who else on the team is going to put up with his crude jokes about human anatomy and the various sound effects its orafices can make! Forget his talent, I need someone for my lottery pick to eat lunch with in the cafeteria! |

Soumaila Samake IBL C 7-2 230 |
David Stern:
With the 20th pick in the Kings Forum Mock Draft, the Philadelphia 76ers
select center Soumaila Samake, from West Africa and Cincinnati of the
IBL. The Toronto Raptors are on the clock. Larry Brown: We weren't exactly thrilled with the play of some people -- I won't name names, but their initials are Matt Geiger -- so we've decided to address our inside positions. Soumaila allows us to put a true big man under the boards, at 7-2, and deliver the message to certain people that they've got to ratchet it up a notch. Plus, he's another guy to knock Allen Iverson around in practice. Got to toughen up the little gangsta. Pat Croce: Plus, he'll be cheap. Sure, I'm rich, but do I dress like a million bucks? No. That's why I'm rich. |

Glen Grunwald: We would
like to thanks the Piston's GM for selecting Barkley over Cleaves. In
our opinion that was a mistake. Cleaves is a leader and a proven winner
not to mention tough as nails. With him we are solidifying our point
guard position. In addition Mateen is someone who can light up a fire
under our players when things turn tough. We are still hoping to re-sign
Tracy McGrady, I know that will be difficult but if we need to fire
Butch Carter to accomplish that we'll do it. Butch Carter: If you fire me I'LL SUE YOU!!! and write about it in my next book. Glen Grunwald: Oh shut up!!! If there were not 3 years left in your contract you would be gone by now. Like I was saying we have internal problems and a cool head like Cleaves would help in the locker room. With Cleaves on board we can start shopping Doug Christie around and try to plug the hole that McGrady will leave if he decides to sign for another team. |

We think that, in time, he can be effective at both guard positions. We originally had questions about his shooting ability, but when he nailed 10 of 10 three pointers in a drill in Chicago, we were convinced he was our man. We're also excited about the players still left on the board, so if you'll excuse me I have to get back to the buffet... er, war room. |

GM: S-Chris |
Keyon
Dooling Missouri So. PG 6-3 180 |
David Stern: With the
24th pick in the 200 NBA draft, the Chicago Bulls draft Michael Jordan.
Jerry Krause: We're very happy to get Mr. Jordan back with the 24th pick in the draft. How 23 other GMs passed up on one of the greatest players of all time amazes me... hold on, my assistants want to talk to me. Ummm, it seems I've made a horrible mistake, give me a minute. I don't want that short little Penn imposter. Time out Mr. Stern, I'll be right there. David Stern: We have a correction, with the 24th part B pick in the draft, the Chicago Bulls take Kenyon Dooling from Missouri. Jerry Krause: We are very happy that Kenyon fell into our laps. It was going to be a tough choice between Mr. Cleeves and Mr. Dooling, but when Glen took Cleeves off the board, our choice became blatantly simple. We hope Kenyon can fill in our very weak point guard position. We have time to wait for him to develop and think we have a future Steve Francis type player on our hands. We realize it will take out team some time to develop, but in the meantime, Miles, Dooling, Artest, and our FA SF [editors note: McGrady] will give us an exciting high flying dunkfest that the fans will enjoy. We're trying to complete the transitional circle from the UnbeataBULLS, to the UnbearaBULLS, to the at least WatchaBULLS, and hopefully back to the beggining again. At least this solves our PG dilema and gives us a potential all-star at every position. The future is looking very bright in Chicago. Thank you for your time. BJ Armstrong: Does this mean I'm out of a job? Commish (Bo Kimble): I believe it's Keyon Dooling. Griz GM (JB): Hmm, I had Keyon Smith written down. Wiz GM (Critic): Okay, just how many picks does Chicago get? They have picked a few times already and have the THREE picks preceding my Zards' pick? There oughta be a law! :-(( They'll rip off all the best athletes available and won't even be able to keep most of them Unfair. :-(( Not enough that they got the #7 pick from us. Oh no, just keep on pickin! Hey, give them 30 picks! grump, whine, snarl. :-((( The Crowd: How's Dooling's Achilles? Any improvement? Hubie Brown: They doctors don't think they'll have to amputate after all. Anyway, with modern prostheses being what they are, Dooling might could beat out BJ Armstrong even if he did lose that leg. I mean BJ isn't exactly Magic Johnson at PG -- or even Mookie Blaylock for that matter. Think SF would want to trade Chicago Mookie for BJ and seventeen second round picks? Don Nelson: Hey Jerry, we would love to buy out BJ's contract and have him here in Dallas. And if you wouldn't mind just send Matt Maloney here in package also. I must admit that I'm addicted in collecting PGs all around the league into my team... Jerry Krause: Mr. Kimble, we think that Mr. Dooling may have an attitude problem, that he's overly arrogant. That's why we've purposfully been calling him Kenyon during the official draft procedings; to let him know he's important, but not too important. I'm sorry if you mistook our humbling strategy for bumbling, incompetent, stupidity. and Mr. Nelson, I would trade you BJ, but from what I've been reading on Bull fan forums, any trade involving him should bring in McGrady, Hill, or Shaq. I never knew he was that good! Knicks GM (Outlaws): BJ is that good if you count rings. Wiz GM (Critic): So, if rings are what counts most, then Wennington is the best of the Kings? Not. ;-) Don Nelson: BJ really is that good...if you count on him to even the salary cap on both team in a blockbuster trade. Knicks GM (Outlaws): Critic, Wennington is good that RA didn't want to over use him. RA was trying to save Bill for the Finals. Too bad the Kings didn't quite make it... :~) Don Nelson: But seriously, I would like BJ to join the team for his invaluable championship experience and hopefully he could teach young PGs in this team how to prevent getting injured frequently and have a prosperous career. Donnie Nelson: But didn't BJ announced his retirement due to serious knee injury dad? |

Brown Indian Hills CC So. C 7-0 260 |
David Stern: With the
25th pick of the 2000 NBA draft, the Phoenix Suns select Ernest Brown
from Indian Hills community college. Bryan Colangelo: We believe Mr. Brown is a great prospect and we are very happy that he slipped down to our pick. Although he is coming off of a somewhat disappointing season at Indian Hills, I believe he has all the tools to become a good center in this league. With some development, he can provide us with athletic center who can run the floor well and provide a strong defensive presence. He is not one of those centers who seems to be pre-destined for mediocrity, and we think he might end up being a perfect match for our team with its lack of depth at the center position. Don Nelson: Great pick Byran, now would you mind considering it a little bit about reversing our deal 2 years ago trading Shawn Marion(future 1st rd pick then) for Steve Nash? Bryan Colangelo: Hmm. If we gave you Marion, I guess you wouldn't need Michael Finley anymore. Marion and Livingston for Finley and Nash. ;>) |

David Stern: With the
26th pick in the 2000 Kings Forum Mock Draft, the Utah Jazz select Mamadou
N'diaye from Auburn University. Dennis (Nemo) Haslam: I wasn't able to tear Mr. Miller from the buffet line... er, war room, so as acting GM I thought I might address the media instead. Frankly, we're quite surprised that N'diaye slid down to us at 26. We had projected that he'd be gone by the middle of the first round. We've been looking for a young, shot-blocking, defensive-minded center for some time now, and we believe that Mamadou will eventually provide some productive minutes in that capacity. Mamadou is known for his shot-blocking and rebounding, but his offensive game has improved every year in college. Stu (Pistons Guy) Jackson: The Denver Nuggets have just informed me that there is no need to alter the draft board to reflect that the Nuggets have aquired the 26th pick from Utah. Dan (Pistons Guy) Issel: What he's trying to say ... is that you can basically slap a Nugget logo overtop of the Jazz logo beside N'Diaye's name. That's exactly the guy we would have taken at #26. Of course, it MAY have altered our #37 overall pick ... but what can you do, we're happy to have two C prospects with such late picks. |

Trailblazers have picked Jr. Jason Collier a 7'0" 250lb center from
Georgia Tech. Bob Whitsett: We are pleased as punch to be able to land Jason, we figured with his all around good game, being the strong passer, the nice jumper that he has, the fact that he is a great competitor and plays smart and being very agile to boot that he could be someone to come in and gradually take over for Walton, err Sabonis. Then too maybe at the end of his playing career he could take over for Walton at the Mike, maybe I'll start watching NBA basketball again... why did HE have to be a Blazer?... |

Elgin (Plug) Baylor: "You know, I discovered the most amazing thing while I was waiting to pick. My 8 year old nephew was typing on his computer next to me, and would you believe there is actually this thing called the "Internet" where people can actually communicate with each other without talking! Anyway, he showed me this place called "Espen" where some guy who sure seemed to know lots about basketball wrote that he thought Craig Claxton was the third best point guard in the draft, better than Barkley even. Well, who am I to argue with a technology wizard like that who is so smart he can put his words down for the world to see. I do believe we have acquired our much needed point guard." |

Dallas
Mavericks
GM: PistonJW |
A.J.Guyton Indiana Sr. PG 6-1 175 |
Don Nelson: Now let's
welcome Mr.Cuban on the stage. Mark Cuban: Thanks Don. Now before we announce our choice of the pick #31, please allow me to have a few sentences about the coach Knight issue. Me, like many other graduates from IU, have the mixed feelings about Mr.Knight. For one part we sincerely appreciated the achivement which coach Kinght and his basketball team brought to us in the past 20 years, but in the other hand his coaching style and outrageous temper is always being a hot-debated issue. Being a die-hard Hoosiers fan I would like to point out that coach Knight established the ironic character for this team-discipline, diligence, hard-working, those basic values which are not easy to find in today's sports. It has been his style for years and I believe it will not change in the future, and that's what I treasure the most. From now on there will be a lot of tests awaiting for him to accomplish step by step. and I sincerely hope he could overcome all of that and prove himself that he was not teaching his players for nothing. Now lets' go back to the draft. Stu Jackson: With the 31st pick of the 2000 Bleacher Mob draft, the Dallas Mavericks selected A.J. G... Mark Cuban: No! No! No! That's the wrong card!! I'm very sorry Mr.Jackson, would you mind stop the show a while and we would like to make the correction on this one... Jerry Krause: Awww, come on Mark, go ahead take AJ, he's a great player (snickers). Really, he was first on my draft board..he he he. Stu Jackson: (After a mess)Oh...Ok. Now can we start again? Ok. Now it's the REAL one: For the #31 pick of the 2000 Bleacher Mob Draft, the Dallas Mavericks select Mamadou N'diaye, center from Auburn. Jerry Krause: Pssst, Mr. Jackson and Mr Cuban, the Jazz all ready took him with the 26th pick. However, before you steal on of my picks, I'd like to point out that AJ is still on the draft board. The Crowd: OH!!! (Knight finally goes in when the conference room is in a mess.) Bob Knight: I just know that. Mark you little boys always can't get the work done! Now give me the mike! And listen carefully it is official: The Dallas Mavericks select A.J.Guyton, the point guard from Indiana. Take care of my boy Mark. Stu Jackson: We have to apologize for the delay of the Dallas pick. A.J. is heading to Dallas for real. Now Jerry Krause and the Bulls are on the clock. |

Mark
Madsen Stanford Sr. PF 6-8 235 |
Stu Jackson: With the
32nd pick in the 2000 NBA Draft, the Chicago Bulls select Mark Madsen
out of Stanford. Jerry Krause: My Aunt is here to help me move some of the stuff I've packed out of my dorm, so I'm sorry, but you'll have to wait about an hour for the explanation and next two picks, sorry! Jerry Krause: Now that I feel we have potential, future all stars starting at every position, we are now freed to pick up the types of role players we need in the second round. We are looking to get tougher and more tenacious with our picks. We have plenty of skill and players who can score and now we need players who play with heart, play to win, and can play defence. As the Lakers were preparing to pick in the first round, we had Carrawell, Claxton, and Madsen penciled in, unfortunatly two of them were drafted ahead of us. However, with Madsen still on the board the first pick was easy. Madsen is a warrior, this guy gives 110% every time he is on the floor. He is also a team player who we feel would be willing to accept a diminished role behind Brand and some minutes at center when the opposing team is playing with a small lineup. Madsen is always around the ball and is the kind of leader we want on the team. Brand and he will set an excellent example for some of our younger players. He is also farily skilled and can provide the team with good defence and solid offensive production. Michael Ruffin and Fred Hoiber: Does this mean we're out of a job? I wonder if we can join BJ in Dallas? |

Jaron
Rush UCLA So. SF 6-6 200 |
Stu Jackson: With the
33rd pick in the 2000 NBA Draft the Chicago Bulls select Jaron Rush
from UCLA. Jerry Krause: Sticking with the same theme that led us to draft Madsen, we feel Rush is a competitor. He is a superior athelete who can defend, dunk, run the floor and is always around the ball. As an added bonus he's a good outside shooter, which this team needs. We feel the criticism he has recieved is undeserved, he had agent problems in college, but it is unfair to label someone with no criminal record as being a trouble maker. When Rush is on the court he plays with fire and tenacity and is not afraid to get in a teammates face and let them know what they're doing wrong (in a good way) and he never backs down from an opponent. Bill Walton: A player who "never backs down from an opponent" just hasn't played against Shaq yet. Don't you worry -- that boy'll learn to back down FAST! Jerry Krause: We also considered his UCLa teammate Jason Kapono with this pick as well as Michael Redd and Eric Coley. But Jason's lack of athleticism and defence worried us as did Coley's complete lack of offensive game. Rush is a winner plain and simple and while his game is still very raw, we have the time to wait. He is a ball hawk and hussles on every play, he's also not afraid to take big shots and has a history of preforming well under pressure. If his partying doesn't lead him to become to wild with all the new money, he can easily become another Latrell Sprewell. And just in case he develops like we hope, we've all ready gotten Mr. Floyd protective neck guards. Corey Benjamin:Does this mean I'm out of a job? Does anyone know Mr. Nelson's phone number? |

Jason Kapono UCLA Fr. SF 6-7 218 |
Stu Jackson: With the
34th pick in the 2000 NBA draft the Chicago Bulls select Jason Kapono
out of UCLA. Wiz GM Critic: Rats! Jerry Krause: We realize that this gives us a large number of SGs and SFs, but Kapono's potential was too much to pass up on. UCLA has had a history of failing to develop porfessional skills in their prospects (see the O'Bannon brothers, Don McClean, Tracy Murry, etc.), so we are happy to get Kapono at a young enough age to make him the special player he can be. While his defence and ability to create his own shot develop, he will be able to provide us with the outside game necessary to compliment Brand, Pryzbilla, and all of our slashers. He is a dead eye shooter from both three point range and mid range. We feel this is a steal for us, if he had gone back to school for another couple of years he would probably have become a lottery pick, so we are thrilled to get a player of his caliber at the 34th pick. we also considered drafting a backup center or point guard here, but felt that any one we could have drafted here would have no more immediate or future impact than a relatively cheap free agent. The only point guard that really intrigued me with this pick was Jeryl Sasser, but even he hadn't proved enough to get the nod over a player with Kapono's potential and there were no centers left who played with the agressive nature and competitive fire we were looking for. I also want to wish the best of luck to Michael Redd who we passed over by a hair the last two picks. I'm sure he will make some GM very happy. Thank you. Randy Brown: I know, I know, I'll start packing. I think Mr. Nelson has a guest room if I'm not mistaken. And if not, I here the owner owns Cuba or something, so maybe I can stay there. |

Stu (Critic) Jackson:
With the 35th pick, the Washington Wizards pick Hanno Möttölä, SF from Utah. Wes Unseld: I know you expected MJ, as did we all. Well, get over it; he’s never around. But at least he called me on his cell phone from the sand trap by the 16th green and gave me his pick and the exact words I am to say in making it: “I wanted an athletic SF who cold take me one-on-one at hoops, but will settle with one who can shoot and who is big enough to carry my golf bag and get the occasional rebound. Maybe his ball handling and D will improve. Scottie’s did (tho he sure sucks without me there to smack him when he’s about to cry). That’s a wap!” Nobody knows the humiliation I endure for this team. Darrell Walker & Rod Higgins: (Chorus) We get to talk? Cool! We had been hoping to get Jason Kapono, who wouldn’t be nearly as good as Hana Motorolla while Hamilton is coach for the next 2 years, but who will be MUCH better by the time one of us gets to coach the Wizards. Sorry, the guy’s name is Hanno Möttölä -- we’ve just been goofing around during the incredible week of waiting to draft. Lots of folks had him going in the first round (Monter had him going 23d, but no one believed THAT.) Are we done here? Let’s call MJ. (pause) Yep, MJ says we’re done. |

Rick Pitino Redux: At 39, you can’t expect to get a guy who can jump like a deer and drain 3’s – walking with a cane and 75% of layups is more like it. So imagine our surprise to get Cota! My scouts say he is MUCH better than his stats or measurables – one says he is the best NBA PG in the draft. (We are drug testing that scout.) We hope he’s the next KC Jones. Stu Jackson: Sorry

Karcher, swingman out of Temple. Gregg Popovich: We are very excited to grab Karcher with this deep into the second round. We had him graded as one of our top 25 players. We see him filling in nicely at the 2-3 spot for us, where we have some issues with a likely retiring Sean Elliot, a 65 year old man in Jaren Jackson, a 95 year old man in Jerome Kersey, and Mario Elie, who may be difficult for us to resign. Mark has great range from the outside to open things up for David and hopefully, Tim. He certainly understands defense from John Chaney. It may take him some time to defend 2 guards or play an open court game, but we like his work ethic and upside. |

He was the best defensive player on one of the best defensive teams in Division 1 this year. He has been a winner everywhere he has played. We think we can pick up Derek Anderson as a FA this summer, and with he, Porter, George McCloud and James Posey, we've got a nice looking swingman rotation to complement our star players Van Exel, McDyess and Lafrentz. We really, really could not have pictured doing close to as well in this draft as we did, both with McClintock and with Porter. Guess 2nd round picks aren't useless anymore. San Antonio
Spurs
GM: Brent from Chicago |
Terrance
Roberson Fresno St. Sr. SF 6-7 215 |
Stu Jackson: With
the 54th pick in the NBA draft, the San Antonio Spurs select Terrance
Roberson from Fresno State. Gregg Popovich: We are very happy to grab Terrance at this spot and think that he has a great chance to make the roster. Our biggest need is at the swing positions, and we feel lucky that an athlete like Terrance was still available. He is the chance to be an excellent defender and is great in the open court, while still having an ability to hit the open shot. The thing we like best is that we run a pretty tight ship here in S.A. and Terrance is used to that environment from his days with Tark (Dup!). |

Golden
State Warriors
GM: MK |
Jake
Voskuhl University of Connecticut C |
Stu Jackson: With
the 55th pick in the 2000 Bleacher Mob Mock Draft . . . the Golden St.
Warriors select . . . Jake Voskuhl, Center, University of Connecticut.
Garry St. Jean: It came down to two players for us. Jason Hart and Jake Voskuhl. We were so torn between the two that we decided to use the age old adage . . . if you can't decide, then go big. Acutally I don't know if that's age old or an adage but it sounded good. Plus, Jake reminds us a bit of a kid up in Sacramento, goes by the name of Pollard. |

Jones University of San Francisco C/PF |
Stu (kb) Jackson: With
the 56th pick in the 2000 Bleacher Mob Mock Draft the Indiana Pacers
select Kenyon Jones, University of San Francisco. Donnie (kb) Walsh: We are happy to bring Kenyon on board and think he'll fit in nicely with the young, outstanding unit we are currently developing. He's got a strong inside game and is an excellent rebounder. And it is no rumor! The Pacers need rebounders! Overall, good fit for the Indiana Pacers. |

Dallas
Mavericks
GM: PistonJW |
Marko
Jaric Italy SG/SF 6-7 210 |
Stu Jackson: tick, tick,
tick... Don Nelson: Sorry for being so late. The final pick is kind of hard to select. We want to find the best one available in the world for our team. And I'm glad this one is still on the board... Stu Jackson: With the 58th and the last pick of the 2000 Bleacher Mob Mock Draft, the Dallas Mavericks select...Marko Jaric, sg/pg from Italy. Don Nelson: Actually we are very surprised about how deep this draft is. Even at the last pick, there are still some young and talented players with further potential who are available and that cause us much more diffucult to make the decision than we expected before. The main reason we pick up Marko is he has all the tools to become a solid pro: tall(6-7), quick, skilled, shoot well, and most importantly he has great ball handling ability which could enable him to play either the pg, sg or sf in the league. And after all he's only 21 yrs old. it is too hard to pass him up. He had an impressive performance in the Chicago pre-camp which give himself a great boost also. We are very glad to have him here. And with the addition of Marko I finally can accomplish my idea of bringing an international starting 5 to my team: Nash(Canada) at pg, Jaric(Serbia) at 2, My boy Dirk(Germany) at 3, another rookie Olumide(Nigeria) at 4 and 7'3" Bruno Sundov(Croatia) at center. And now I just hope Mr.Krause could agree the deal about Michael Finley trading for Chris Anstey back to Dallas therefore I can get more versatile in this united-nation team... Commish Bo Kimble: Thanks everyone for participating in the mock draft. |
(Thanks, kb, for the updates while I was on vacation!)
